Plan(et)- a collaborative event planning hackathon project
Purpose:
Two-day hackathon project, to select and build an idea as a team
Idea for a crowdsourcing event planning mobile app -
Target audience: individuals wanting to crowdsource planning diverse larger-bandwidth events (neighborhood planning committee, or activists wanting to organize a peaceful march.)
Intended user experience was to decrease apprehension or intimidation for planning an event by engaging others to help plan the event (including experts)
Approach:
Assembled in the morning and presented results the afternoon of the next day.
Split responsibilities between mobile app front end development, back end, database and API development, branding and design, and user experience.
Used React for the front end development, Node.js for back end development, and Google Maps API for the mapping feature.
Started with paper UX wireframing and then digitized it in Adobe Illustrator.
Project duration: 2 days
Role & key contributions:
UX for mobile app (cognitive walk through, pen/paper wireframes)
Collaborate with designer on design elements and style sheets to give to front end developers
This app has two main features: a guided walk-through of the event planning process that generates a tailored to-do list, and a collaborative platform that allows other users to search for and assist the event planning process. Depending on the setting, the event creator can select individuals or allow the public to view and start ticking items off of the to-do list.
